Hopdoddy Burger Bar

The Goodnight Burger at Hopdoddy Burger Bar Dallas - University Park

The Dallas gourmet burger market is heating up with the recent opening of Hopdoddy Burger Bar. Born in Austin, Hopdoddy’s short history dates back to 2010.

Like many other burger joints of its kind, Hopdoddy’s focus is on quality beef (Premium Gold Angus), bison and other meat from livestock raised without antibiotics or hormones. At the bar, you’ll find regionally produced beers on tap and other libations.

When you get in line to order your food, the hostess gives you a number and assigns you a seat. I was given a booth beneath a prominent photograph of Willie Nelson’s smiling face.

My burger, The Goodnight, came loaded with cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce, caramelized onions, jalapeno slices (fresh, not pickled) and something they call Sassy Sauce. On the side, I ordered the Kennebec Fries.

The beef was fresh, well-seasoned, juicy and well suited to the toppings — all of which sat between a challah-style bun (seeded wheat or gluten free buns are also available). The fries were crispy and delicious.

What a treat it was to work my way through that juicy burger and fries. Beware: you could become as spoiled as I did from this experience. Hopdoddy just set the burger bar a little higher.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar is located at 6030 Luther Ln., Ste 100 Dallas, TX 75225 (Preston Center). Visit them online at http://www.hopdoddy.com/.
