Dallas Day Trip: Floating the Brazos River
Thinking about floating down a cool river to beat the Texas heat this summer? If the trip down to Central Texas — with its Guadalupe, Comal, and San Marcos rivers — seems like to much of a schlep, you may want to consider the Brazos River.
Only a day trip from Dallas, the Brazos River offers multiple access points. The river has two popular sections: just below the Possum Kingdom Lake dam and near the Cleburne/Glenn Rose area, south of Lake Granbury.
Compared to the Central Texas rivers, the Brazos runs slower and shallower with some (very) minor rapids. Aside from drought conditions, water released from both Possum Kingdom and Lake Granbury dams should be clean, cool and adequately flowing.
If, like me, you haven’t yet floated on the Brazos River, helpful links are provided below. The following YouTube video is particularly well done and informative.
